Questions, answered.
Everything you need to know about how Velira works, what it costs, and what it will (and won't) do with your money.
Can Velira ever touch my money?
No. Velira is read-only by architecture — connections can see balances but can never move money or place a trade. It tells you the move; you place it. There is no path for Velira to touch a dollar.
Do I have to link my accounts?
No. Linking your bank and brokerage (read-only, via Plaid and SnapTrade) is the fastest way to get accurate numbers, but it's optional — you can add any account, asset, or balance by hand and Velira works exactly the same. Either way, connections are read-only: Velira can see balances but can never move money or place a trade.
What makes Velira different from Mint, Monarch, or Empower?
Those apps are built around your bank and brokerage. Velira is built for people whose money is complicated — investments, business equity, illiquid private stakes, earnouts, private notes — exactly the wealth where Monarch and Empower go blank. Your entire net worth in one honest number, with an AI coach that reasons over all of it.
Is my financial data secure?
Yes. Account connections run read-only through bank-grade aggregators — Plaid and SnapTrade — so your institution login is handled by the aggregator and never stored by Velira. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and your data is yours — we never sell it.
How is this different from using ChatGPT for my money?
A general AI chat can reason about whatever numbers you paste into it. Velira is a system of record with structural guarantees a chat can't make: read-only account links so your real positions are always the input, a planning engine with an auditable rule trace (open the 'Why' tab on any recommendation and see the inputs, engine version, and rules that fired), pre-action Catches like a same-ticker wash-sale window with the exact day it clears, nightly broker-truth reconciliation of positions and protective stops, and a hard never-executes posture — including an output gate that structurally blocks personalized buy/sell directives.
Is this personalized investment advice today?
Not yet — and we're plain about it. Velira is financial-information and education software, and it's pursuing registration as an investment adviser; that registration is not yet effective. Until it is, Velira does not provide personalized investment advice: it's decision-support that shows you the move your plan's rules call for and the reasoning behind it, grounded in your real numbers; it never executes trades, and projections are hypothetical. You decide and place every trade yourself at your own broker. Upon registration, Velira's human professional tiers (Wealth, Tax, Estate) provide personalized advice as fiduciaries. Investing involves risk, including the possible loss of principal.
What happens in a crash?
This is what the architecture is for. Your Buffer holds ~24 months of real spending in cash and T-bills, so a crash can't force you to sell at the bottom. The Storm-Watch monitor flags the regime change early, and the coach tells you what to do — including, often, 'nothing; this is what the buffer is for.' Red days stop owning you.
Does Velira auto-sync my business, real estate, and private notes?
No — and we won't pretend to. Brokerage and bank accounts sync live and read-only. Private and illiquid assets — your business, real estate, private loans, an earnout — don't have a live market price, so you mark the value and Velira makes it make sense alongside everything else. Honest by design, no fake numbers.
What is 'Ask Velira'?
An AI coach grounded in your live numbers. Ask it anything about your money — by text or voice — and it answers specifically, not generically. It'll even tell you no: on a red day, if buying options is the wrong move, it says so and shows why. It's read-only, so it can never place the trade for you.
What's the 'potential total' I keep hearing about?
Velira separates what's booked from what's contingent — earnouts, payouts, and upside you're owed but haven't received — and shows them side by side, never blended. The potential figure is a projection of what you're owed, not money in the bank, so you always plan against the honest floor first.
Are the survival odds and projections guarantees?
No. Monte Carlo survival odds and goal projections are estimates based on your data and assumptions — useful for planning, never a promise. Velira deliberately leads with the 'honest floor' (only confirmed assets) so you plan against the floor, not the rosy case. Velira is financial-information and education software pursuing investment-adviser registration (not yet effective), and it does not provide personalized investment advice today; past performance does not guarantee future results.
What if the math is wrong?
Every number in Velira can show its work. Recommendations carry a 'Why' view listing the inputs, the engine version, and the exact rules that fired. The survival floor is deliberately pessimistic: conservative return assumptions, confirmed assets only, 40,000 seeded simulations that produce the same answer every time — and when a number can't be computed honestly, Velira shows '—' rather than a guess. Our engines are pinned by golden tests, and our tax tables cite the IRS revenue procedure they came from. What we won't do is promise outcomes: projections are hypothetical, and markets don't sign contracts. If you ever find a number that looks off, the Why view will show you exactly what produced it — and if it's our error, we fix it and say so.
How much does it cost?
There are four tiers, and no AUM fee at any of them. Velira OS is the full software — instant self-serve — at $3,000 for your first year ($2,000/year, annual only, plus a required one-time $1,000 white-glove onboarding), then $2,000/year after that. From there you can add a real professional: Velira Wealth ($3,500/year) adds a dedicated fiduciary CFP; Velira Tax ($6,000/year) adds a dedicated CPA for year-round personal tax planning and 1040 prep & filing; and Velira Estate ($9,500/year, annual only) adds a dedicated Estate Planner — and white-glove onboarding is included in each of those tiers at no extra charge. Only Velira OS is instant self-serve; the human-advisor tiers recommend a consultation but can also be purchased immediately.
What exactly do I get in Velira OS for $2,000 a year?
Everything the app does, no upsells. Your entire personal balance sheet in one dashboard — multi-entity net worth (private equity, business, real estate, crypto and alts), live Plaid + SnapTrade syncing, contingent/earnout assets tracked honestly, and a per-section 'Ask Velira' AI on every tab. Plus the full toolkit: equity-comp modeling (ISO/NSO/RSU/ESPP/QSBS/AMT, 10b5-1, IPO/secondary), tax-loss harvesting, direct indexing, asset-location, a filing-ready 1040 + all-50-state returns, Schedule-C bookkeeping, backdoor & mega-backdoor Roth, a 529 planner, retirement Monte Carlo, a Social Security optimizer, a Roth-conversion ladder, estate-document generation, and insurance/DIME analysis. For context, comparable all-in-one wealth software across the industry typically starts higher; Velira OS is $2,000/year — $3,000 in your first year with the required one-time $1,000 onboarding — with the AI coach built in.
What's the $1,000 onboarding fee?
It's a required one-time white-glove onboarding that's part of every Velira OS purchase (and it's included at no extra charge in the Wealth, Tax, and Estate tiers). It makes your first year of Velira OS $3,000 — $2,000/year plus the $1,000 one-time onboarding — and renewals are $2,000/year. A dedicated specialist connects and verifies every account, models your real estate, private lending, and business equity, and sets up your goals, plan, and guardrails with you — so 100% of your personal net worth is right from day one. If your situation needs something we don't track out of the box, we build custom tracking with you.
What do the human-advisor tiers add — and how do I sign up?
Velira Wealth adds a dedicated fiduciary CFP who monitors your portfolio continuously (drift, asset-location, equity-comp optimization) with no AUM fee. Velira Tax adds a dedicated CPA for year-round personal tax planning and 1040 prep & filing. Velira Estate adds a dedicated Estate Planner for legacy structuring, trust funding, titling validation, and multi-generational maintenance. White-glove onboarding is included in each. We're being honest: a consultation is the recommended way to start these tiers — book a call and we'll match you with your professional and set you up. If you're ready now, you can also purchase immediately; because we're still hiring these professionals, advisor onboarding begins after purchase.
Is this investment advice, or do you take custody of my money?
Velira OS is a financial information and education tool — it is decision-support, not personalized investment advice, and it is read-only by architecture: it can never move money, hold custody, or place a trade. You decide and act at your own broker. The Velira Wealth, Tax, and Estate tiers connect you with a real, licensed professional (a fiduciary CFP, a CPA, an Estate Planner) who can give you personalized guidance within their license — but Velira still never takes discretionary custody of your assets. You stay in control of every dollar.
Does Velira handle my business's taxes and bookkeeping?
We track 100% of your personal net worth — including private equity, real estate, and business-entity valuations — and the CPA on Velira Tax handles your personal return (the 1040 and state filings). We do not do corporate tax (1120S / 1065), corporate bookkeeping, or payroll. The self-employed Schedule-C bookkeeping in the app covers sole-proprietor income that flows onto your personal return.
